The Bruny Island Environment Network (BIEN) recently showed the ‘In Transition’ film in conjunction with the local Film Society. In a discussion afterwards facilitated by John Cameron, who attended the first Transition Tasmania training, there was interest in pursuing Bruny Island as a Transition initiative. At the subsequent meeting of BIEN, it was decided to proceed cautiously and register ourselves as ‘mulling’ over the possibility of becoming an official initiative. Many of BIEN’s existing projects and activities fall within the range of Transition-type activities, but we want to make sure we have a critical mass of interest and broad support within the island community, which is small (permanent population 600) and spread thinly over the island’s 60 km length.
